MEDIA RELEASE: PATIENTS CELEBRATE FIRST SUCCESS IN FIGHT TO SAVE ILKESTON FAMILY PRACTICE AND GP WALK IN

Protestors to gather outside NHS Derbyshire offices in fight to save centre as MP confirms plan for scrutiny review

Organisers of a campaign set up to save the Ilkeston Family Practice and GP Walk In Centre are celebrating after MP Jessica Lee confirmed that she is referring the closure of the centre to the county scrutiny committee.

The decision has been widely applauded by patients, who feel that this is the first step in saving the centre, and will highlight the terrible way the closure has been managed by NHS Derbyshire.

The manner in which the centre has been closed has been widely criticised, with no communication or consultation with patients.

Today, campaigners will be protesting outside the offices of NHS Derbyshire to coincide with their Board Meeting.  So far, NHS Derbyshire continue to ignore their patients, however, we will not give up.  We will continue to fight this closure, until the issue is resolved.

PROTEST DETAILS:  12.00 – 13.45, WEDNESDAY 6 FEBRUARY, OUTSIDE NHS DERBYSHIRE OFFICES, CARDINAL SQUARE, 10 NOTTINGHAM ROAD, DERBY, DE1 3QT

The closure, scheduled for 28 February 2013, was announced by local media on 27 November, with no prior consultation or communication to patients.  With more than 1,500 people registered at the GP Practice, and more than 9,000 appointments held at the Walk In Centre during the last three months, its closure will have a huge impact to Ilkeston and surrounding areas.

In just 10 weeks, more than 4,000 people have signed a petition to save the centre, including Ilkeston-born TV-star, Robert Lindsay.

For further information about the closure, people are invited to visit the campaign website which has been set up - www.saveilkestongp.co.uk which also includes details about how to sign the online petition.
